Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Burbank grew up on a farm and received only a high school education in Lancaster County Academy. The spineless prickly pear is a type of evergreen cactus that, unlike other types of prickly pear cacti, isn’t armed and dangerous. Burbank, a native of Massachusetts, was a nationally known figure who was responsible for creating many new varieties of plants. He is credited with introducing more than 250 new varieties of fruit, including a large number of plum varieties that are widely used in agriculture. A portion of the property was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964. The site is included n the official Santa Rosa historic landmarks and the Sonoma County Historical Society list of landmarks. Designed and built by Luther Burbank in 1889, this building provides changing exhibits, and includes a replica of his office which contains many of his tools. The home and gardens are located in downtown Santa Rosa, on the corner of Santa Rosa Avenue and Sonoma Avenue. I didn't know much about Luther Burbank before visiting the home. I learned quite a bit, he was an interesting man.

Burbank lived in Santa Rosa for more than 50 years, and performed the bulk of his life's work at this location. From 1884 to 1906 he lived in this park's Greek Revival house; he then moved across Tupper street to a house that no longer exists. After Burbank's death in 1926, his widow Elizabeth moved back to the house, where she remained until her death in 1977. Follow the steps for your mobile banking version.
Originally a place to store carriages and horse tack, the carriage house was renovated in 1986 as a museum. The building accommodates exhibits relating to Burbank's life and work, the gift shop, and the tour registration desk. An original cupola atop the building was replicated in 1989.
